President of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says church can change policies but not God’s law
The leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has reaffirmed the religion’s opposition to same-sex marriage, saying God’s law dictates that marriage is restricted to unions between a man and a woman.
The church president, Russell M Nelson also said during a speech to students at the church-owned Brigham Young University that the religion’s love for everyone regardless of sexual orientation led to the repeal earlier this year of a 2015 policy that banned baptisms for children of parents in same-sex relationships and labeled gay couples as sinners eligible for expulsion.
